障がいのある方の未来を明るく照らしたい。
刺子文化も今や世界に広がりを見せている中、障がい者の就労支援として”刺子”を用いたブランドを、世界に向けて発信していくことを目的にした栃木発の”TERAS/テラス“。

京都の山城店舗では、弊社が生産したオリジナル商品だけでなく、独自に選定した様々なブランドの商品をご紹介していきたいと言う思いで、兼ねてから検討を重ねてきた企画の第一弾です。

出会いは必然、東京で行われていた小さな展示会でした。
大きな展示会を足早に周った後、別の場所で開催されていた展示会で小さく光る商品があったのです。

We want to brighten the future of people with disabilities.
As the stitching culture is now spreading around the world, “TERAS/Teras” from Tochigi aims to introduce a brand using “stitching” to the world as a way to support the employment of people with disabilities. The company is also a member of the “TERAS/TERRAS” brand.

The Yamashiro store in Kyoto is the first in a series of projects that we have been considering for some time, with the hope of introducing not only our own original products, but also products from various brands that we have independently selected.

Our first encounter was inevitable, at a small exhibition in Tokyo.
After quickly touring a large exhibition, we came across a small, shiny product at another exhibition held elsewhere.

– 刺子で世界を目指す –

みなさんは”刺子/さしこ”はご存知でしょうか?
手芸が得意な方や興味がある方に向けて刺子キットや専用布なども売られていますが、そもそも綿や麻が高価だった時代、着ている衣類や布団は擦り切れるまで、もはや手の施し用がない状態まで使っていました。

その過程で使っている途中に生地が破れたり、薄れてきた箇所を補強する役割だった”ツギハギ”が刺子の源流です。

それらは様々な生地の補強として刺子が使われてきた事もあり、狙ったようで意図せずできあがった色の濃淡や、生地感が織りなすアートのような存在として、世界では”BORO”として人気を博すようになっています。

このBORO生地を使った商品を山城で発売した過去もございますが、今やBORO生地は高価でいて入手困難。時間があれば蚤の市などに出向き買付ていますが、良いBOROには出会えず、BOROを使った商品の第二弾を発売するに至っておりませんでした。

そしてまた刺子を山城の商品に採用したいとも考えていたのですが、ある程度ロットがある製品を手縫いでチクチクとやるには相当の時間と手間を通するのも事実。担い手もおらず、商品に刺子を使うというアイデアは夢のような話に変わっていたのです。

Have you ever heard of “Sashiko”?
Although sashiko kits and special fabrics are available for those who are good at or interested in handicrafts, in the days when cotton and linen were expensive, people used their clothes and bedding until they were worn out and there was nothing more to be done with them.

In the process of using these fabrics, “tSUGIHAGI” was used as a reinforcement where the fabric was torn or faded during use, and this is the origin of Sashiko.

The stitching has been used as reinforcement for various fabrics, and has become popular as “BORO” in the world as an art form that is woven by the shades of colors and textures that seem to be intended but are unintentionally created.

We have sold products using this BORO fabric at Yamashiro in the past, but BORO fabric is now expensive and difficult to obtain. We have been visiting flea markets to buy BORO fabric when we have time, but we have not been able to find any good BORO fabrics and have not been able to launch a second product using BORO fabric.

We have been thinking of using stitching again for our products, but it is a fact that it takes a lot of time and effort to sew a certain lot of products by hand. With no one to handle the work, the idea of using stitching on products had become a dream come true.

– 出会いは必然 –

そんな中、出会った”TERAS“のミニウォレットとカードケース。
過去に繋いできたBORO生地(藍が多い)の色合いとは全く違う刺子の小物たち。

その細かな手刺繍が奏でる色彩の音色は、清らかでダイナミック。
商品の詳細を企画の方から聞いて「これは!」と思いました。

誤解を恐れずにいうと、障害のある方の雇用問題は難しい問題だらけです。
一言に障害と言っても、それには個性があり対応策も個々に応じなければいけない。雇用側からすれば、日常の仕事に加えたケアも仕事に入ってくるのですから、なかなか進まず月日だけが流れてしまう。障害のある方だって大人になる。

山城でも過去に何人か受け入れてきたから分かるんです。

In the midst of all this, we came across the “TERAS” mini wallet and card case.
The colors of these small items are completely different from the shades of the BORO fabric (mostly indigo) that we have been using in the past.

The tone of colors produced by the fine hand embroidery is pure and dynamic.
When I heard the details of the product from the project manager, I thought, “This is it! I thought, “This is it!

To put it bluntly, the employment of people with disabilities is full of difficult problems.
Even if we say “disability” in one word, each individual has his or her own personality, and measures must be tailored to meet his or her individual needs. From the employer’s point of view, it is difficult to make progress and the days pass by as the employer has to take care of the disabled person in addition to his/her daily work. Even people with disabilities become adults.

We know this because we have accepted several people with disabilities at Yamashiro in the past.

– 純粋な一心 –

彼らの持つ集中力と、今を生きる心模様が溢れた1点物。
常識にとらわれない色彩とその模様は、独創的でかつ繊細。

それら全てご紹介したいのは山々ですが、山城で展開するアイテムは、キャッシュレス時代にぴったりのミニウォレットとカードケースの2種に絞りました。

刺子キットのように針の目が書いてある訳でもなく、運ぶ針が仕上げるそれは、すべてが世界にたった一つのオリジナル。その日の気分で荒い刺子ステッチになる時もあれば、心躍った日には繊細で細かくなるかもしれない。
色も季節や天気で違うでしょう。

These one-of-a-kind pieces are overflowing with the concentration they possess and the patterns of their hearts and minds as they live in the present.
Their unconventional colors and patterns are original and delicate.

Although we would love to introduce you to all of them, we have narrowed down the items available at the Yamashiro store to two types, mini wallets and card cases, which are perfect for the cashless era.

The stitch kits do not have needle marks written on them, but rather are made by the needle that carries them, and each item is a one-of-a-kind original. Sometimes it will be rough stitches depending on the mood of the day, and other times it might be delicate and detailed on an exciting day.
The colors will also be different depending on the season and the weather.

仕上がったそれらを手に取った時、彼らの心は伝わるはず。

今後は山城の商品のデザインにステッチをして頂く企画も同時進行中ですが、それはそれ。難しい話は置いておいて、まずは彼らの作品を手にとってご覧くださいませ。
