使う道具のほとんどは、歴代の職人たちが大切に使ってきたものばかりで、いぶし銀の光を放っている。

新しいものが次々と生み出される昨今、使い慣れたミシンの多くは40年の時を刻むものばかり。

毎日のように使うから、故障することもある。

パーツ交換で、まだまだ使える現役なのに、メーカーに問い合わせても、パーツが無いと言われてしまう。

そして、最新のものを勧められるのだ。

新しくすることを否定はしない。

新しいものは実に多くの機能を搭載していて便利に違いない。でも、手が体が感覚が、古くなったミシンを求めてしまう。古きものを大切にしたい。そんなポリシーもまた、私にとって最も大切なことでもあるから。

Yamashiro has been in business for more than 70 years.

After passing through the Showa and Heisei eras, the company is now living in Reiwa.

Most of the tools used by Yamashiro have been carefully used by the craftsmen of the past generations, and they shine with an ironed silver shine.

In these days when new products are being created one after another, many of the sewing machines they are accustomed to using are 40 years old.

Because they are used every day, they sometimes break down.

They can still be used by replacing parts, but when I ask the manufacturer, they say they don’t have the parts.

They then recommend the latest and greatest.

I don’t deny that newer is the way to go.

The newer ones have so many functions and must be more convenient. But my hands, my body, and my senses are still looking for an old sewing machine. I want to cherish the old ones. Such a policy is also the most important thing for me.

だから、無いパーツは作るし、使えるようにレストアする。

そして、使い勝手の良いようにカスタムだってしてしまう。

職人というものは、実に道具を大切にしている。

いわば、相棒でもあるのだから。

Therefore, we make parts that are not available, and restore them so that they can be used.

We even customize them to make them easier to use.

Craftsmen take great care of their tools.

They are their partners, so to say.
