前半に引続き さらにお話を伺っていきたいと思います!
– むずかしい生地を実現できた時が最高の時間 –
下田 楽しい！良かった〜。って思う作業ってありますか?
川島 そうですね〜。「こんなの作ってほしい」ってとっても難易度の高い 織りにくい糸でご依頼いただいた時。それが綺麗な仕上がり、描いたように作れた瞬間は「よっしゃ」と思いますね。笑

– The best time is when we are able to realize a difficult fabric-
Shimoda: It’s fun! I’m glad I was able to do it. Is there any work that makes you think, “That was fun!
Kawashima: Yes, I do. When we are asked to make something like this with a very difficult yarn that is hard to weave. The moment when I can make it beautifully, just as I have drawn it, I think, “Yes, that was fun!
川島 生地を織っていく時、綿はまだ慣れているのですが麻なんかは糸が切れやすいんで、回転数を落としたり、空気の量を少なくして切れないように細かな機械の設定なんかがあるんです。
下田 空気の量!?
川島 ヨコ糸を飛ばす空気の量です。切れやすいと微調整がいるんですよ。エアージェット織機を使っているのですが、空気の量や目に見えない 微妙なチカラや調整が必要なんですよね。
Kawashima: When weaving the fabric, I am used to weaving cotton, but linen threads tend to break easily, so we have to reduce the number of revolutions and the amount of air to prevent the threads from breaking.
Shimoda: The amount of air?
Kawashima: It is the amount of air to blow the weft. If the weft tends to break easily, fine adjustments are necessary. We use an air jet loom, and the amount of air and other subtle, invisible adjustments are necessary.
– 琵琶湖のほとり 自然豊かな この土地が好き –
下田 最後に、この土地でお仕事していて良かったな〜って思うことありますか。
川島 仕事にはあんまり関係ないですけど、雪が降ったらスキーできるし、夏は琵琶湖で泳げるし。

Shimoda: Finally, is there anything that makes you happy about working here?
Kawashima: It doesn’t have much to do with work, but I can ski when it snows and swim in Lake Biwa in the summer.
下田 良いですね。琵琶湖の近くで1年通して過ごしやすそう。
川島 とにかく自然が豊かなんで、ネコが遊びに来たり、イタチが入ってきたり、楽しいですよ。笑 鼠も当然。
ツバメも毎年訪れてくれます。
下田 ツバメも毎年! 縁起良いですね。笑
– 工場の入り口にはたくさんのツバメの巣が。 動物にも快適な空間のようです –
天然素材のみで着心地の良い服をつくる。
色々な苦労があるようです。
面倒や苦労もあるが、天然素材にこだわり、基本的なことを淡々と続けていく。
中々むずかしいことです。
Shimoda: It’s nice. It looks like it is easy to spend the whole year near Lake Biwa.
Kawashima: Anyway, the area is rich in nature, so cats come to play, weasels come in, and it’s fun. lol, of course, there are rats, too.
Swallows also visit us every year.
Shimoda: Swallows visit every year! That’s good luck, isn’t it? lol
– There are many swallows’ nests at the entrance of the factory. It seems to be a comfortable space for animals as well-
Making comfortable clothes using only natural materials.
There seem to be a lot of hardships.
There are troubles and hardships, but they stick to natural materials and continue to do the basic things in a straightforward manner.
It is a difficult thing to do.
一つ一つ、工程を丁寧に説明してくれる姿勢。
それぞれの機械への愛情も感じられ、とても暖かい気持ちになりました。
