■京絞りのプリーツ
一長一短ではいかない、熟練の絞り技術を継承されてきた京都の絞り職人にお願いして、非常に手間のかかる通称”木目絞り”を施しました。画像はシャツの横方向に一針一針を丁寧に針と糸を入れ、シャツ1枚に40段の絞りを施し、棒状になったものです。
この状態で次の形態安定加工に入りますが、その前にもう少し絞りのウンチクを。
We asked a shibori craftsman in Kyoto, where skilled shibori techniques have been handed down from generation to generation, to do what is commonly known as “Mokume-shibori,” which is a very time-consuming process. The image shows a shirt that has been carefully shibori-dyed in 40 steps by inserting a needle and thread one stitch at a time in the horizontal direction, and then the shirt has been made into a bar shape.
The shirt is now ready for the next process of form stabilization, but before that, a little more information about shibori.
絞りをとった状態の画像では、その針目の細かさに驚かれるかもしれないですね。
不慣れな方は針を真っ直ぐに縫っていく事も難しいはずです(笑)
また糸入れは女性の職人でも可能ですが、これをギュギュッと絞るのは男性の力がなくてはコンパクトにならず、職人泣かせで正直いやがられているかもしれません(笑) しかし新しいことが好きな、伝統はイノベーションによって引き継がれることを知っている職人さんのおかげで実現したといえる絞り技術です。

– 唯一無二の形態安定加工 –
棒状に絞りを入れた状態で形態安定加工を施し形状が決まるため、絞りの糸を抜いた後にシャツを引っ張ると、元に戻ろうとするストレッチ性が生まれます。これを活かしたのが今回のプリーツシャツの凄いところ。
