苔寺や鈴虫寺など、京都を代表する観光名所が立ち並ぶ、京都の西エリア。竹藪のグリーンに映えるオレンジの暖簾が風に揺れる。

フロッキーという名前をご存知の方はどれだけいるだろう？
電車やバスの座面、シルバニアファミリーのボディなどに使われていた、ビロード風の加工を思い出して欲しい。

How many of you know the name “flocking”?
Remember the velvet-like finish used on train and bus seats, Sylvanian Families bodies, etc.?

植毛加工とも呼ばれる特殊な加工は、接着剤を塗布した生地に長さ数mmの繊維を固着させ、立体的で手触りのある素材を生み出している。思わず触れたくなるあの”もふもふ”っとした独特の手触り。

This special process, also known as “hair-planting,” adheres fibers several millimeters in length to a fabric coated with adhesive, creating a three-dimensional material with a soft touch. The unique “fluffy” texture makes you want to touch it unintentionally.

フロッキーアーティストとして活躍する、吉田貴志さんの奥様である吉田実里さんが店頭で、お客様にフロッキーの魅力を丁寧に伝えていた。

Misato Yoshida, wife of Takashi Yoshida, an active flocking artist, was in the store, politely telling customers about the appeal of flocking.

「ブランド名であるビーアンキシャスは、“気になる・気がかり”という意味なんですよ」

なるほど。
確かにこのもふもふは気になる。

「主人が、本物のフロッキープリントを手がけておられた師匠の元に弟子入りしてフロッキー加工を学びました。ご高齢だったので存続させなければと。」

京都の小さな工場で出会ったフロッキー加工に魅せられて、その技術を学び、磨いて生まれたビーアンキシャス。フロッキー風は数あれど、唯一無二の加工とデザインたち。

The brand name “Be Anxious” means “concerned.

I see.
This fluff is certainly curious.

My husband apprenticed himself to a master who worked on real flocky prints and learned the flocky process. He was very old, so I thought I had to keep it going.”

Fascinated by the flocking process he encountered at a small factory in Kyoto, he learned and refined the technique, and the result was BEE ANKISHAS. Although there are many flocky styles, the process and designs are unique.

戦後、日本に技術が入り、かつては多くの職人がいたが、今ではこの技術を継承している職人は数少ない。

The flocking process originated in the United States.
The technique entered Japan after World War II, and although there used to be many craftsmen, today there are only a few who have inherited this technique.

「結婚して子供が生まれるまではOEM(相手ブランド商品の生産)だけをやっていたのですが、子どもが生まれて、お揃いの服を家族で着たくなって、自社ブランドビーアンキシャスが生まれました」
と、笑顔で語る。

I was only doing OEM (original equipment manufacturing) until I got married and had a child, but after my child was born, I wanted to wear matching clothes as a family, and our own brand, BEE ANKISHAS, was born,” he says with a smile.

クラフト市から販売を始めたあるとき、百貨店のバイヤーが、この“もふもふ”に惹かれて声を掛けた。それをきっかけに、ビーアンキシャスと共に、フロッキー加工が世に広まり始める。

When the company started selling at craft fairs, a buyer from a department store was attracted by the “fluffy” texture and approached the company. This was the beginning of the spread of the flocking process with BEE ANKISHAS.

「かわいいだけじゃないかっこよさは、子供とお揃いで着てもおしゃれで、たくさんの人に喜んでいただいています」。

また、「好きな数字とバックの種類、フロッキーカラーを選んでいただき、オーダー製作が可能な世界に１つの、モフモフトートバックが人気です!」と語る。

大量生産ができない、手作業が主となるフロッキー加工。
ひとつひとつの工程を、丁寧に大切に仕上げることで生まれる“もふもふ”。

繊維を服に突き刺し、静電気を用いて美しくも愛らしい“もふもふ”が生まれていく。

数日間干して、安定させて仕上げる。すべてがハンドメイド。
手間暇と時間がかかり量産は出来ない。

「手を抜いたら楽にはなるが、すべての作業が楽しいからこそ、続けていたい」。

真っすぐに吉田さんは語る。

Flocky processing cannot be mass-produced and is mainly done by hand.
Fluffy” is created by carefully and carefully finishing each process.

Fibers are stuck into the clothes and static electricity is used to create the beautiful and lovely “fluffy” fabric.

The clothes are dried for several days to stabilize them before finishing. Everything is handmade.
It takes a lot of time and effort and cannot be mass-produced.

If I cut corners, it would be easier, but I want to keep doing it because I enjoy every step of the process,” says Yoshida.

Mr. Yoshida says straight to the point.

The round, hair-like bobori produced by the flocking process are individually broken up by craftsmen with their fingers so that they can be used again.

「まだまだ知られていないこのフロッキー加工を、一人でも多くの人に届けたい」
そんな願いを込めて直営店をオープン。

We want to bring this still-undiscovered flocking process to as many people as possible.
With this wish in mind, we opened a directly-managed store.

「雑木林が広がるこの土地を見た時、ここが良い! って直観で思ったんです」

4年の歳月を経てのオープン。
想いと願いが詰まった小さなお店には、世界屈指の技術が生み出した、かわいくもCOOLな商品が立ち並ぶ。

When I saw this wooded lot, I knew in my gut that this was the place. I had a gut feeling that this was the place.

After four years, the shop opened.
The small store, filled with thoughts and wishes, is lined with cute and cool products created by the world’s leading technology.

「百貨店を通じて、全国の催事に出店していたので、地方では知られていても、京都ではあだまだ認知度が低いですから、ここから新たな挑戦が始まります」

いつか阿闍梨餅さんにみたいに、京都を代表するブランドに育てたいと、吉田さんは意気込みを語る。

優しさと温もりと技術を秘めたフロッキー加工。
そのフロッキー加工を生かしたCOOLでかわいいデザインたちが、
ここから世界へ羽ばたく日は近い。

We have been selling our products at events all over Japan through department stores, so even though we are known in the local area, we are not well known in Kyoto, so this is where our new challenge begins.

Mr. Yoshida is enthusiastic, saying that he hopes to someday develop the company into a brand that represents Kyoto like Ajari Mochi does.
