昨今は着物離れが著しく、地方では染色や絞り、絵師や型屋などの職人さんの確保も難しくなっていますが、そこは都だった所以でしょうか。まだまだ前線で腕を振るう職人さんが多くおられるのは京都の良さでもあります。
綿や麻の生成色が面白くない!
と藍を使ったり草花を使ったりして季節の色合いを楽しみ、今度は柄が欲しいと縛って染めてみたり、型に色を入れてみたり。年月をかけて様々な工夫を施し受け継いできたのが現代です。
今回ご紹介するのは先の脈々と受け継がれた伝統と、現代の加工技術を融合させた絞りプリーツシャツ。古き物と新しい技術を掛け合わせ、今までにない着心地とデザイン性を生み出しました。
– Pleated shirts that produced miraculous comfort-
Recently, there has been a marked shift away from kimonos, and it has become difficult to secure craftspeople such as dyeing, shibori (tie-dyeing), painters, and mold makers in the rural areas. It is a good thing that Kyoto has many craftsmen who are still at the forefront of their craft.
The raw colors of cotton and linen are uninteresting!
Then, when they wanted a pattern, they tried binding and dyeing, or adding color to the molds. Over the years, various innovations have been made and passed on to the next generation.
The tie-dyed pleated shirt introduced here is a fusion of the traditions handed down from generation to generation and modern processing technology. By crossing the old with new technology, we have created a comfort and design that has never been seen before.
– 絞りと形状記憶と楊柳と –
おしゃれは引き算だと言いますが、今回は足し算でご提案します。
特許をもつ形態安定加工は、既に山城のプリーツパンツなどでご存じの方も多いと思います。生地をいくら伸ばしたり引っ張ったりしても永年で元の形状に戻ってくれる加工です。
これ自体が恐ろしく画期的な技術なのはもうご存じですよね。
ナイロンなどの化学繊維は、熱に弱いことを上手く利用し、熱をかけることで形状を一定に保つことが出来るのですが、綿や麻は熱に強く、一定の形状を保つことができない繊維だったんです。
ですから山城の売りである、綿や麻の天然繊維のみにこだわり、涼しくて肌に優しくてスグに乾いてくれる楊柳生地(ようりゅう)の形状を安定させるのは難しかった。
特許ですので詳しくは言えませんが、楊柳生地の最大の特徴である横糸の捻った糸を、ある一定の場所で止めておくことが出来るようになってからは、その着心地と見た目が大きく変わるようになりました。
– Shibori, Shape Memory, Cotton Pleats –
They say that fashion is a subtraction, but this time we propose an addition.
Many of you are probably already familiar with our patented form-stabilizing treatment, such as Yamashiro’s pleated pants. No matter how much the fabric is stretched or pulled, it will return to its original shape after many years.
You already know that this itself is a terribly revolutionary technology.
Chemical fibers such as nylon are heat sensitive and can be heated to maintain a constant shape, but cotton and linen are resistant to heat and cannot maintain a constant shape.
Therefore, it was difficult to stabilize the shape of the Cotton Pleats fabric (a fabric that dries quickly and is cool and gentle to the skin), which is Yamashiro’s selling point, by sticking only to natural fibers such as cotton and linen.
I cannot go into details because it is a patent, but once we were able to stop the twisted threads of the weft yarn, which is the most distinctive feature of Cotton Pleats fabric, at a certain point, the comfort and appearance of the fabric changed dramatically.
– 伝統の技術のその先へ –
ガラスに伝う雨粒や流れをイメージした絞り柄、雨音。
これは百戦錬磨、熟練、卓越、様々な言葉が当てはまる職人でも、2日に1枚しか絞り上げることのできない技術を応用させて頂いています。
手間と時間、職人の心が詰まった柄の雨音は、シャツの横方向に向けて一直線、一針一針を細かく刻みながら縫い込んでいきます。そしてその一直線を40ライン進み合わせることで、静かな時を奏でる、流れのある水模様のような柄を生み出しました。
この絞り加工を終えたシャツは、まるで魚を開きにしたような棒状の物体ですが、この表面のみに加工を施すことで、絞りの山の部分が谷の部分を引っ張り、何度洗っても何回着ても立体的な絞りの跡が残り、シャツのそれ自体がアコーディオンカーテンのように”ビョンビョン”伸び縮みするプリーツシャツへの進化したのです。
– Beyond Traditional Techniques –

Ameon, a pattern filled with labor, time, and the hearts of craftsmen, is sewn in a straight line toward the horizontal direction of the shirt, stitching each stitch in fine stitches. Then, by matching these straight lines with 40 lines, a pattern like a flowing water pattern that plays a quiet time was created.
By processing only the surface of the shirt, the peaks of the pattern pull the valleys of the pattern, leaving a three-dimensional pattern even if the shirt is washed and worn many times, and the shirt itself becomes a pleated shirt that expands and contracts like an accordion curtain. The shirt itself evolved into a pleated shirt that stretches and shrinks like an accordion curtain.
